I didn't want anything fancy - I am learning the treble and tenor, and I just wanted an instrument I knew I could play without thinking too much (I have been playing it for over 40 years), checking sounds and fingering comparisons. I have an old instrument that has got somewhat battered - I wanted one that had a reasonable sound, at a push be played in public or demonstrated, but was never going to be a main instrument.
The instrument really is proof of you get what you pay for - but I could have spent less than this and got a better instrument. Maybe I should have just refurbished my old wooden descant.
I know descants are small, but this is tiny, more suited for very young children. My old descant is slightly larger. Definitely not for larger hands.
The parts were not greased properly. I feared breaking it when I first tried to manipulate the parts.
The 'protective case' is laughable. It is cheap and thin and would fall apart within a term at school.
Several of the notes are very flat. It is painful to play certain sharps and flats as they are not 'true'.
Even if you are a beginner, go and buy a decent instrument such as an Aulos or Yamaha. Double the price of this, but 10 X the difference in quality and sound. I have ordered a Yamaha from another site who specialise in musical instruments so I have reasonable confidence that I will get something decent.
I'm not going to bother returning it, just another case of buyer beware. You may as well buy a penny whistle for 50p from the charity shop than buy this.
