It has taken some months to build up technique in this art form. The trouble is there are too many variables to master when you first start.
So having got lathering, creams and brushes sorted out the only remaining thing were blades. I had quickly settled on Personnas Reds as a great balance between sharpness, cost and ease of use. I had been through a typical multi-pack assortment of blades of which probably only a couple were interesting and worth buying again. Of course I stayed away from Feather's as the general view seemed to be that they were too sharp for most people and your face would be ripped to shreds, so I stayed with my tried and trusted Personnas for many months.
Probably like most people on here I now shave as a necessary hobby and enjoy trying new things, so of course eventually I was going to try the dreaded Feather's. Am I a man or a mouse?....Pass the cheese please.
The Personna's are very good but there are small sections under my chin that always require extra work with the tidy-up pass. (1 WTG, 1 Across & 1 Against +tidy) The Personna's tended to drag a little on these very coarse hairs after a couple of days use, so they would get binned after the third day. Would a sharper blade be better?
I splashed out and bought 30 Feather's and tried my first shave early o'clock this morning (shift worker). With the warning voices from many reviews rattling round in my head of blood and disaster I finished the first pass. No blood, ok so far, so good. Got to the end and hardly any tidy up to do (poor technique/missed bits rather than sharpness) and still no blood, I had done it.
So for me they are very good, but I'm glad I didn't try them earlier. When I first started DE shaving I even chopped my face up with Derby's.
The only question now is value. My Personna's last three shaves but are really cheap at 14p a blade, where the Feathers are 29p*, so double the price. Unless they can last for just under a week, I will stick with Personnas which are nearly as good.
Of course if they do last then I will be putting an order in for a carton or two.
*Gillette Mach 3, £1.40 a blade lol

None compare to a good De Razor, and some good blades.
Over the years I have tried them all"Except Some of The very New Ones", but these blades are the best.
Beyond doubt after using these I could not believe how close these blades cut.
After my first pass WTG I could hardly feel any stubble.
My fav setup is: A Merkur 510 adjustable Long Handle, as I have big hands loaded with a Feather blade.
Bluebeards post shave gel, as I have a really sensitive skin, but a tough beard.
I use Mitchell Wool Soap for Sensitive Skin this gives me a great lather nice, and creamy.
After I use Arko classic Moisterising cream.
After reading on here how people say they had a wrong one in a batch, all I can say is that can happen with any make.
Please dont be put off by people who say it ripped there face to pieces, or pulled, and burnt there faces.
When I see that it tell's me people are not taking there time to properly prepare for there shave, or may not be using the right tools that
suite them they should think about what they are using, and see about changing it.
After all dont forget everyones beard, and skin changes over years, so you have to accomadate, and look at what you can change in your setup.
Always let the weight of the razor do the work, never press it , "It's Not A Plastic Cartridge".
Also most important of all take your time use short strokes be patient, and work on your technique once you have that your home, and dry. :).
HappY Shaving.

They are obsurdly sharp. You can just feel SUCH a difference with each stroke. My hairs are thicker than most I'd say, so I never, EVER get a shaving glide that has "no tugging", but hey, such is life.
I've been using the Derby blades that came free with my razor, and just for some reason have never been able to get a blood-less shave from them. Always spots of blood here and there. Maybe it's my technique. Maybe I didn't leave the cream on long enough to soften my thicker hairs. Maybe I wasn't vigorous enough with the brush when lathering on. Maybe I didn't have enough lather (impossible to be honest, I always apply, if anything, too much, but I make sure I can't see my skin colour through the lather). I could just never get a decent shave with them.
These blades though? Wow. Just, wow. I used a out-of-the-box Feather blade when I got them, amazing results. I waited 4 days before shaving again to get the same amount of hair growth back on my face, and used a new, out-of-the-box Derby blade (my last one thankfully), and what a surprise; bleeding on my neck from "bumps" due to duller blades.
I'd happily get these Feather blades over and over. Even if they go dull after 2 shaves I wouldn't care. Cheaper than 5-bladed razors.
I was about to ditch DE razor shaving due to bleeding, something I never got from my Wilkinson Sword Quatro, but these blades have made me want to give DE shaving a second chance.
