I bought the xsharpe for my fiskars x5 hand hatchet to keep a nice edge on it, i was quite dubious because of some of the negative reviews saying how flimsy it was.
It does feel light weight and if you hit it with an axe it would crack but that won't be happening and if used correctly then it is a good piece of kit that will keep your axe very sharp.
All you have to do is place your axe into the cutting groove, slowly move your axe forward, no need to push down on it, then slowly move it backwards towards yourself, do this motion of back and forth slowly say 5 times forward 5 times back, your axe edge should be very sharp once more.
You can also sharpen knives too, you push the side of the xsharpe across and the cutting groove will change angles and be ready to sharpen a knife, I sharpened 4 Mora knives with it using the same method I sharpened my axe but only moved it forward 2 times and 2 times back in a slow sawing motion, all knives are now razor sharp with no damage.
Don't push down just slowly move forward and back, the ceramic stones inside will slowly sharpen your axe or knife.
You could even take the casing off and dab a damp cloth on the stones to wet them a little as you would with a sharpening stone.
If you want a quick and easy way to sharpen an axe or knife, if used correctly, this does the job.
