I did have in 2018 a Huawei watch 2 with my one plus 3T but when I bought the note 9 I decided to go for the Samsung watch. I was happy with the Huawei watch 2 and with the Huawei apps too.
Nevertheless, I was worried about some internet reviews which are not very kind for the heart rate performances of the GT2 or GT2 pro. I have asked to the amazon community and I received 6 very positive responses, therefore I decide to go for it.
My first impression after 5 exercises (waking) was that the heartbeat was 20 to 30 BPM less than my actual one, and 10 BPM under on normal use.
I did contact Huawei support and they told me the following:
1 – reset the watch
2 – Reset the phone network
3 – wear the watch 1 finger above the wrist and tight
I did have resetting the watch before in the middle of the week and I do not see the add-in value of the resetting the phone network Vs the Heartbeat issue form the watch.
I have googled it and I found that interesting YouTube video which explain how to wear the watch (Any type of running smartwatch like Garmin or polar), and the guy said 1 or better 2 fingers above the wrist and tight with a good video to show how.
I did it this morning and guess what, the GT2 pro heart rate was the same than my actual heart rate. Excellent news!
I have attached a photo of the position of the watch on my wrist.
Ok now for my verdict on that watch:
1 - Design: I give 5 stars because I found the watch very smart and I am happy with the good library of watch face from Huawei. It has also an “always on” option, but different way I knew with my Galaxy watch.
2 - Easy to use: another 5 stars because there is not a tonne of gadget and widget, at the end it is a watch not a tablet or a laptop. It is therefore easy to find straight away all the function I need to use.
3 – Heart rate monitor: 4 stars, because I will be happy to get the option to Bluetooth the watch with a heart rate belt, and today it is not possible to pair the watch with a HR belt. Also, it not obvious to know how to wear the watch for the optimum use and a small video from Huawei will be welcome.
3 – Sleep measurement: 4 stars because it seems to work but I can prove it and I prefer to be prudent. Also, when I wake-up slightly during the night, this has not recorded on the watch, not a big deal for me.
4 – Steps, duration, Pace, calories, Cadence, speed, elevation: 5 stars, happy with it
5 – Heart rate zone: 5 stars (when you know how to wear the watch 😉) the 5 principal zone are excellent and for the calculation you choose between two methods: maximum Heart rate percentage or HRR percentage, also you setup you own Maximum heart rate. You can also setup HR rate alert. The watch gives you your Vo2max on the exercise report and an aerobic training score!
7 – Stress and SpO2 max: 5 stars, it is working, and it is measured (if you wish) all the time.
8- the weight: 5 stars because I can enter my weight and my body fat rate. There is also 3 different scales which can be link to the apps and this should give you a lot more information if I wish to buy one.
9 - notification during the exercise: 5 stars because the sound is very loud (headset) and you got the choice of notification interval by time or distance. I have chosen to give me a notification every 5 minutes.
10 - music: 5 stars: I am launching Spotify (etc..) with my phone as well as the exercise, my headset is Bluetooth link with my phone and the watch start the exercise on its own. I guess I could link the headset to the watch and download my music on the watch, but I found more practical to use the phone, therefore I can listen Spotify or radio or podcast, etc, as I wish. This is not affected the notification from the watch which I still receive on the headset. PS I can control the pause/play of the music with the watch if I wish to. Any way I always run/walk with my phone, because you never what can happen (i.e., accident or incident for example).
11 - exercise proposed: 5 stars, a tonne of them, plus a lot of training plan if you wish to follow them.
12 – apps on the watch: 5 stars, because I do not have 1000 of apps (as I had with my galaxy watch and I barely used them) just what seems to by necessary which make the utilisation of the watch straight forward and easy.
13 - The Huawei health apps: 5 starts, again enough graph and report but not too much. Also it has downloaded back all my data which I have had with my HuaweiWatch2 3 years ago.
14 - capability with a Samsung phone (in my case galaxy 10 plus): 5 stars: the Huawei health apps is working well; the watch is working well with the Bluetooth connection. The notifications are working well on my watch, you ‘ve got the choice to choose the notification you wish too (like android), I have chosen for WhatsApp, messenger, text, email, calendar, eBay and huaweHealth amongst all my android phone apps.
15 - the battery: 5 stars, I have charged the battery 3 days ago , I have done three exercises (35mn each) and play with the watch and I still have 66% left, I should be able to use it for 5 days without any issue of battery. The wireless charging seems to be the same than the galaxy watch, therefore I can still using the 3rd party wireless charger I have bought before for my my galaxy watch.
(with my Galaxy watch I can go for a maximum of two days only
Total score: 4.9/5

First thing is I wanted a nice watch, that was top of my list, and wow this is a beauty, up there with some of the more expensive "real" watches i own, the feel and look are something else. From my watch i dont want it to look like a toy, im not fussed about apps, or paying for things with my watch (i think thats important here) im also a Iphone user so keep that in mind as reviews state if you have a Huawei/android phone that opens it up even more, secondly i like stats, so steps/cycling/swimming all adding up to a nice weekly view of activity so i can then celebrate with a take away haha.
Out the box was a massive update (pretty standard) and a wireless charger, with a battery already on 80% I've turned everything on including the always on display, i was a little tentative with all the "tick this box so we can see what colour underwear you're wearing" but if we want to dance with the devil then i guess that's where we are, i doubt your buying this if privacy is a huge concern, it does say you can switch it all off, so that's up to the you.
Inside the watch you can do all kinds of sports, it tracks all sorts so it has an abundance of data for you with a nice addition of golf swing analysis, the thing I keep coming back to is the sleekness of the screen, the light transitioning brightness, and the gorgeous clock faces you can have pretty cosmetic i know but its so smooth.
As a IWatch user for nearly two years, moving away from that (especially as im still on the iPhone) was a leap but im so glad I have, i didn't use a lot of what the IWatch offered i felt it bloated a system whilst looking child like. So im hoping this review helps somebody who was like me, and i hope ive explained it well enough to help with your decision.

So these are my thoughts in comparison to the Samsung Watch:
GOOD
Battery life - quite superb. This thing lasts for days. I’m not entirely sure it will last the advertised 14 days on a single charge but with average use across a 24 hour period (including health tracking, exercise etc) it loses only 13% battery which is way beyond what the Samsung is capable of.
Build - it’s a really lovely watch with a gorgeous amoled screen and very crisp visuals. The titanium body is very smart and it has much more elegance than the more tech-looking watches around (including the Samsung). I don’t miss the clever rotating bezel of the Samsung at all. Interaction is snappy and scrolling and input is snappy.
NOT SO GOOD
My only real issue with the GT 2 Pro is notifications. I have no issue not being able to respond to messages etc via the watch. To me that’s always been what my phone is for. But I had issues with the GT 2 Pro being able to differentiate between apps I was getting notifications from. It’s a small thing, and probably if you are using an on brand phone everything works fine, but I found the watch would give me a generic notification icon that was identical across all apps and not the actual app icon which isn’t great when you get a regular stream of notifications but can’t really differentiate what app they are from. It also couldn’t handle a wide variety of app notifications such as my banking app or Todoist as examples. With a bit of tweaking down to a very basic list of apps (Gmail, Telegram etc) it seems to have sorted itself out. But for a premium device that says it works across Android and iOS the handling of notifications feels a bit amateur and not in the same league as the Samsung watch.
Huawei Health App - I’ve found this app to be great as a health app. It records passive exercise as well as workouts really well. The GPS access can be a bit too slow though. Other health suite features such as stress and blood oxygen are great. But as an app to tweak watch settings it’s a bit clunky and there aren’t a lot of things you can really do. I also found it to lag a bit on opening the app.
Other than that it’s a great watch. Comfortable and good looking. As an overall package, for me (at the reduced price) it just outweighs the Samsung as my watch of choice, but with slightly compromised functionality that may be a result of using it with a Samsung phone (S21 Ultra).

All the other features are common on other brands, as you would expect. The heart rate readings seem accurate and the step count is true to the counts I did (for accuracy comparisons).
In conclusion, this watch works great with another HUAWEI product. If using an iPhone, it restricts your product usabilities, such as downloading music to the watch, etc.
