In my never-ending quest to reduce drying time with a bonus being able to eliminate my flat iron (which I honestly thought would never happen as I'm no newbie to hair products), I researched and purchase Revlon’s One Step Hair Dryer. Holy Smokes!!! I love it!
Here's my review after one week of using.
Why it’s so great:
- I can go from sopping wet to fully styled, with no flat iron in 12 minutes! (was 30 before)
- Powerful wind (shockingly), so it dries your hair while you style it
- Has 3 settings, cool, low and high (and the settings are at the bottom of the handle so you won’t accidentally change or turn it off-and the high is great, not scalding hot like some dryers)
- Oval brush, this is the INGENIOUS part of this design!!! The brush also has shorter bristles that grab your hair and works JUST LIKE having your hair blown out at the salon (I showed my friend who is a stylist and said this product would put him out of business if his clients knew about it). It grips and puts tension while drying so yes, it's about the size of a paddle brush with oval sides, and curling is likely not an option.
- Grabs even shorter hairs. Many reviews said it wasn't good for shorter hair so I was surprised with my results. The back of my hair is just above the nape of my neck, so the shortest hairs could be maybe 2” long AND, I'm using it on my bangs!
- I don’t have to use a flat iron any more and I look like I walked out of the salon
- On the days when I don’t wash my hair, I've been use a spray bottle to mist my hair, and take a quick 3-5 minutes with the dryer and again, salon like quality, no flat iron, not even on my bangs! (see picture attached)
- Lightweight, but a word of caution, the handle is a bit bulky. If you have tiny hands or problems with your hands it could be an issue
- Adds volume! I’m not using any volume product before or after styling. As someone with thick hair you would think volume wouldn’t be an issue, however thick hair is also heavy hair.
I’m hoping to see a huge improvement in the health of my hair and reduction of split ends as a result of this dryer and no flat iron over the next few months.
More About My Hair (should it be of interest)
I have thick hair, not curly, not straight. Shoulder length in the front shorter in the back (like pretty short and barely pony tail possible), Lob style. If I didn’t style my hair in the morning or after blow drying, it would be a mess. (like what your hair probably looked like when you were 8 years old and just got out of bed kind of hair.) I even have a pretty cool contraption that suction-cups to my mirror, holding my traditional hair dryer so I could dry using both hands. I could never leave my hair wet or even damp, because it would never dry. I can't go to bed with wet hair as it's still really wet in the morning. Again, thick hair.
It would take on average 15-20 minutes to just dry my hair. (at the salon, the stylist books an extra 15 minutes for me) Then a flat iron or curling iron because my motto before this dryer was ‘if you want good hair you need hot tools and that’s the price you pay for good hair." And I was willing to pay the price!
Needless to say, I had to carve out time to wash my hair. It was a big production, so to the flat iron I would go in between washes, with massive split ends being created every day.
I've attached a selfie taken just this morning of my 2nd day hair. I used a spray bottle this morning, misted and dried. That volume - yeah, that was NEVER there with a flat iron!
March 7, 2019 Update: Still loving this hair dryer!!! Everything I said above still stands and my hair is much healthier. I have recommended this to many friends and family and they have also found the same to be true. I always have a backup one in box just in case as I can't be without it! In the past year I have bought 4 back ups because each time I talk with a friend/family member about this dryer, they want one right away so I sell them mine then buy a new back up for myself LOL! The second picture I posted is my hair almost one year later, March 7, 2019 and I'm due for my cut in 2 days.
IMPORTANT TIPS: I neglected to mention that if you'd like to prolong the life of your hairdrier see if you can find a way to hang it. Because it's a hairbrush essentially laying it on its side (on the bristles) with the added weight of the dryer I'd recommend hanging this. What I do is fold up the cord in about 6" lengths, wrap a secure tie or clamp around it and hang it by a loop in the cord in my closet on a hook I use for belts. Also, every once in a while you should also clean or make sure they air flow screen near the bottom of the handle is free of dust, lint, etc. You know, the stuff that blocks your hairdryer and clothes dryer. Keeping this clean (for both LOL) allows your appliance to work more efficiently.
August 12, 2020 - another update! If you're wondering if I still love this product... I DO! I've posted another picture, so now there's 2018, 2019 and 2020. Earlier this year I bought the Dyson Airwrap which I absolutely love for curls (it's worth it for the curls alone), straight up drying, or pre-drying, for that it's outstanding. At first I thought, ok, I'm not going to need my Revlon One-Step anymore (after having declared my love publicly for it) and tried for 3 months using the Dyson exclusively with round brush attachment, the flat brush and even bought the smaller flat brush attachments, and you know what?! When I do my straight hair style, I'm still using the REVLON! The reason the Revlon for creating straight hair outshines the Dyson, is because of their brush design, and the second layer of bristles. It grabs the hair AND creates tension. Without the tension there's no way to remove those bumps and kinks that my hair wants to create. So, this is still on the top of my list!
July 2022 update... still loving this hair dryer! Recently I ran into someone who recognized me from my review here (who did buy a One STEP and loves it!), and reminded me it was time to update this review. I still use my Dyson dryer/air wrap for days when I'm not doing a super straight finish but instead with curls, however the Revlon One Step is still awesome for ultra smooth hair hands down! The grip of the brush is what truly makes it better than Dyson's brush alternative. The last picture posted is me now in 2022 after just using my Revlon One Step.

I’m saddened to say that this dryer damages hair to the max 😞
I used it for a few months when first purchased and loved it till I realized my hair was breaking, especially around my face, and the split ends and dryness it caused was awful. To give it the benefit of the doubt, I stopped using all heat tools for 100 days and then only used my hair straightener for about 60 days following that and my hair was in great condition. As soon as I reintroduced this blow dryer brush again, after about three uses, the damage and breakage began again.
So disappointed as it’s so easy to use but it is NOT worth how much it wreck your hair.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
OK, I’ll be the first one to say I was sceptical.. Even asked my hairdresser about it before purchasing (and who didn’t even necessarily “approve”).. but... THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING!
Look at the photos I posted... I have thick, curly, very heat damaged hair and this one step dryer works wonders.
Before this, I was air drying then blow drying till fully dry THEN flat ironing... so was definitely not good for my hair.
Now within 20 mins, after slightly air drying, I have beautiful, volumized, soft locks!
Would highly reccomend!
P.S. ALWAYS use a heat protectant!! Super important for any heat styling product. I recommend frizz ease extra strength 6 effects+ serum. Plus a leave in conditioner before as well (always sulfate, paraben free). I recommend any Renpure product for leave in conditioner and/or shampoo/conditioner.
Happy hair do-ing!!

There have been questions posted about this on this very page but have not even been acknowledged by Revlon. I still haven't come across any article or web page saying "THIS BRUSH USES BOAR BRISTLES" just like their old packaging. I have emailed Revlon as well, they say that they respond to all queries within 48 hours (working days) and I will update my answer when they reply/don't reply.
Revlon, please own up. The techy boars will thank you
